This piece is an isolation diary that captures in pictorial form the range of emotions that goes through an artist’s mind in the course of the lockdown. As the pandemic threw the world into global confusion and chaos, varying narratives and fear mongering health experts predicted doom almost on daily basis and this had tremendous impact on people’s thought processes and comportment. From a personal perspective the isolation period created varying emotions from sadness, optimism, hope to disillusionment and the best way to deal with that was to interpret such feelings into compositions for some sort of inner release and piece. The largest panel in this installation of 7 paintings captures the days of hope and optimism through its depiction of bright colours and patterns that for me signify hope of better days to come. On the other hand, the panels to the bottom right in blue colours some fading from dark brown to blue represent those days of emotional gloominess and sadness caused by the pandemic. Through its compositional configuration, therefore, this piece interprets the year 2020 into visual mood swings and though processes as individuals grappled with the media and professional narratives about the pandemic.
