This is a mixed media with fabrics, Perspex sheets and acrylic to explore, “feminine exuberance”. The choice of materials and the use fabrics is to bring forth the idea of female overtly conspicuous personality which contributes enormously to humanity and various social, cultural and political fabrics of community life.
The pandemic brought varied levels of challenges particularly for mothers who went into lockdown in isolation locations different from those of their children. The worries, uncertainties, fears and confusion that the COVID-19 ensued as well as the conditions of forced isolationism turned the hearts of such mothers into a pool of pandemonium. This piece Feminine Exuberance chronicles what I passed through, what other mothers passed through at the height of the pandemic being kept away from their children for almost an entire year. It also celebrates the courage displayed by women during this period. The dominant female form in the composition stirs into the distance with a confused grimace flanked by an appropriated form of the COVID19 symbol, yet she is flanked by elegant patterns and bright colours symbolic of hope. In this context, the piece comments on women’s resoluteness, power, firmness, desire to stay strong in the midst of global chaos in keeping their homes and performing their societal duties.
